ORE Catapult’s Floating Offshore Wind Centre of Excellence (FOW CoE) will be launching two new strategic programmes at this year’s Renewable UK Floating Offshore Wind 2022 Conference

30 September 2022

Join us for the launch of two new strategic programmes under the Centre of Excellence.

ORE Catapult’s Floating Offshore Wind Centre of Excellence (FOW CoE) will be launching two new strategic programmes at this year’s Renewable UK Floating Offshore Wind 2022 Conference.

FOW CoE Strategic Programme Launch Event
Thursday 13th October

9.30-10.45 and 10.45-12.00 BST

Meeting Room 4A, P&J Live

The FOW CoE has established a number of targeted strategic programmes, in addition to continuing to deliver its core programme of work. These targeted programmes have been developed as large-scale, longer-term programmes which will deliver significant medium-term (2-5 years) impact in specific high priority areas.

The two programmes that will be launched at the conference are:

• Dynamic Cable Systems Technology Development and Qualification
• Mooring Systems Technology Development and Qualification

9.30am: Dynamic Cable Systems Strategic Programme

Whilst they only make up a small part of a floating offshore wind project’s CAPEX, effective design, testing and qualification of existing dynamic cable technologies plays a critical role in maximising turbine availability and reducing project risk.

The primary aim of the programme is to accelerate the development and qualification of key technologies that are required for cost effective and reliable dynamic inter-array cable (DIAC) systems. It will also support the introduction of new suppliers into the floating wind industry to increase supply chain capacity and competitiveness, as well as facilitate knowledge sharing and targeted research and analysis to address existing knowledge gaps.

10.45am: Mooring Systems Strategic Programme

Whilst the general principles of the design and specification of mooring systems are well understood, a number of knowledge gaps exist around the complex representative testing and qualification approaches. In addition, existing supply chain capacity in certain areas is limited with respect to the scale of supply required for the floating wind industry from 2030.

As a result, the FOW CoE has identified the requirement for the industry to work together to develop improved approaches and associated infrastructures for mooring and anchoring systems and in turn support the creation of a capable and competitive supply chain for floating wind and beyond.
